Our trip to Salt Lake

Congrat's RC 250cc Champ, and Travis Preston 125cc Champ!

L      It all started one night while browsing the web. I just couldn't believe that the series was wrapping up. I had been to 3 Anaheim's and San Diego this year. I really wanted to go to one more. Not just from 7:00pm until the last race, but all day from 12:00 noon on! That's the only way to do a Supercross. So I headed over to ticketmaster.com  and bought 4 tickets for Round 14 Salt Lake City. I live in So Cal and didn't care how long the drive was. As it turned out it was going to be me, my 6 yr old son, VET_SLOW_N_LOW and his 10 yr old son.

THE DRIVE 640mi.

Every one warned me about the long drive. But, it only took us 9 hours to the minute, with a 45 minute stop in between.

      Beautiful Utah Scenery!

Once in Salt Lake it was obvious why All I hear about is how pretty it is.

 THE NIGHT BEFORE

We stayed at the Best Western Plaza Hotel. The view was awesome!

It started raining Friday after noon. So we jammed up to the stadium, which was only 1/2 mile away, to see if they were going to do a press shoot, or practice, or something that usually goes on the day before. But the track was covered under a plastic blanket.

Back to top middle.

The guy watching the pits was way cool. He said that they were going to race tomorrow rain or shine! That encouraged me, But Slow and his kid had never seen a live SX race, and the nice weather would have been great. We then retreated to the Sizzler and raided the salad & desert  bar until we couldn't move.

 RACE DAY!

It rained all night and into Saturday. I was way bummed. We cruised the Stadium entrance again and saw that they were letting people in. Every one was in rain coats, and umbrellas. We had ponchos, but nothing to keep our legs dry in the event we had sit out in it all night during the event. So we hit a store called Freddy Meyer. Every one in the store was looking for umbrellas, and they all had on some type of SX or MX hat or shirt or something. We even saw 4 AMA officials there too looking for stuff. We ended up buying trash bags for our legs and feet. We duct taped them on and off we went. When we got there it was still raining a lot. Check out the water running off the track.

They were uncovering the track and replacing all the tuff blocks. So I knew they had planned on doing something. It was now around 2:00 and SLOW had taken his kid to the rest room. Me and my kid were freezing. I was planning on returning to the hotel until around 6:30, and then coming back better clothed for the cold. But just after SLOW got back, the clouds broke and the sun came out ! We were stoked. It was like 70 degrees within minutes. We ended up staying and watching a muddy practice. Notice the puddles on the track.

Practice was awesome. Every one looked good. Although David Vuillemin looked considerably faster than any one. After not seeing Bubba live since Anaheim 3, I was once again wondering from what planet he fell off of. Dang that kid is FAST! look out Chad.

      Back to top right.

    THE MAIN EVENT.

In the main RC hole shot

but out of nowhere (actually just inside) came David Vuillemin. He led for a few laps until RC made his way around him and proceeded to run away with the win. I noticed Darcy Lang from the Arena Cross circuit battling it out with Tortelli ("Tortuga"). Tortelli passed him cleanly. But Lang was very aggressive slamming into 13 a few times. As far as MC goes, he was keeping very close to RC and DV until "lapper Lang" tangled with him just after the whoop section. I have read some publications that have said that MC got passed, but it was Lang who knocked him over. (Hey Darcy, this aint Arena cross! And what's with your girl name?)

All in all, I was really impressed with the stadium, and the event staff. Every one was really nice. And the facility is top notch. It was like a scaled down version of what we here in So Cal are used to. But, being smaller, was also less crowded, less drunks tripping over me, less traffic, less head ache. I am going to add Salt Lake as one of my stops next year for sure.

Freaks in the hotel? Notice SLOW in the back ground ? I think he's in desperate need of a commode.

Some things are really different over there.
